From the Correspondence Desk

This is an old billing receipt from Texas (circa 1920’s). It is a palimpsest work where Cecil Touchon has over written the native text with an asemic text using the existing text as a guide for composition. Hence this work is abstract and expressionist so: Abstract Expressionism.

This is also a collage because Touchon attached an old five cent postage stamp to the composition.

Asemic writing is a wordless open semantic form of writing. The word asemic means “having no specific semantic content,” or “without the smallest unit of meaning.” (wikipedia.org)
